Teachers as Readers
Teachers as Readers is a book club of sorts… It’s a program designed to provide a time and space for teachers and librarians to share some of the titles they are reading and using in the classroom. This is much like the table book talks we did at last May in creating summer reading lists. It was so much fun, and so helpful, we figured why limit ourselves to once a year!
Each session will last from 4:30-5:30
We’ll also serve coffee and snacks and have some door prizes to give away. Come listen, share, learn and have some fun at our TAR sessions this year.
Our first year was 2011-2012 and we met three times, each at a different library and featured book talks from local librarians.
We created a Goodreads account to log the books we discussed, though that hasn't been kept up as well as intended.
The second year we had a TAR strand of events was 2012-2013. This year we decided to meet monthly on Tuesdays and do all our sessions at the Grand Forks Public Library where we had resident book experts -- Aaron Stefanich, Sue Cox, and Mary Lorenz-- who provided book talks and recommendations on hot new titles in various genres. Each meeting had a different genre and we heard book talks from LARC members too. Good times. Great lists of titles.

Because we are scaling back in 2012-2013 (unless someone wants to become a TAR coordinator and arrange the events) we are going to make our final LARC meeting of the year a Teachers as Readers -- Build Your Summer Reading List event.
